Not So Innocent

IMG_4473

Here is Davis calmly sleeping in his bed last night.  However, leading up to this, he was not so innocent as he appears in the picture!  The last few nights, after I put him in his bed, he talks and talks, asking for one thing after another.  He calls out “bana?” (banana), “crackers?” “book?” and even “chocolate milk?”  When I answer “No Davis.  It’s time to go to sleep,” he immediately responds, “Why?”  (He learned that from Landon.)

Last night I decided to just ignore him and see if that worked.  After calling out for everything he could think of, it was finally quiet, and I thought all was good.  About 15 minutes later, I heard him saying, “pants wet!”  I went in to check on him and found him sitting in his bed with a sippy cup of water in his hand, holding it upside down and shaking it all over.  His pants, shirt, sheets, book, and pillow were all wet.  I guess ignoring him didn’t work either – or maybe I just need to leave the water out of his bed!

And finally, one more Davis story:  Shane likes to ask the boys, “Who loves mommy?” or “Who loves Grandma?” etc., and the boys both raise their hands and yell “Me!”  Davis has been well-trained to do this for months, but lately, he has started asking the question himself.  A couple of nights ago, right in the middle of dinner, Davis yells out “Slurpee?  Me!!!!”  I guess we know he likes slurpees!

The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival

Every year, I try to make it to the tulip festival.  This year we barely made it before it was over, and the weather was a bit drizzly, but we’re true Oregonians, so a little rain never stops us!  It actually made for a nice time, not too busy, and the flowers and the colors were amazing as always!

IMG_4444 Landon complained a little in this picture that he is too big to fit in this shoe!  We’ve had a few pictures in it in the past.   Click here and here to see the past ones.

This year, we went with our friends the Kojimas and the Lovelands.  We started by enjoying all of the kids activities they have set up.

IMG_4438IMG_4430  IMG_4433 IMG_4428 IMG_4436 We first enjoyed the ducky races – always a favorite!

IMG_4441 IMG_4440 We then had fun playing on the hay-bale playground.

And Davis loved riding on this horse swing!

IMG_4450 IMG_4453 We then headed over to the tulips, and got one shot of all the kids.  I must admit that in the second picture, Davis had just picked one of those beautiful red tulips.  Whoops!  I let him know that was not allowed, and we didn’t have any other problems thank goodness.

Finally, here are some more shots of the tulips and us walking through them.  The three faces in the tulips in the top right picure are Davis, Luke (Landon’s friend), and Landon.

As we left, Landon said he wanted to go back all the time.  I told him the tulip festival was just once a year, so he asked me if I would make a chain to count down until we can go again.  :)  I told him I’d put it on the calendar, and he seemed to think that was good enough.  I’m glad he and Davis enjoy it as much as I do!

Ribbit!

In our yard, we are always finding little tree frogs.  Shane is pretty good at catching them, and then he lets the boys play with the frog.  They love it!  And I’m sure that lucky frog loves it too.  :)  Davis and Landon both laugh at the frog like it’s the most entertaining thing in the world.

Working in the Yard

Since we’ve been home from Idaho and after I finished the big FBLA conference I recruit judges for, we’ve spent some time working in our yard.  I should really say Shane has, although I did plant a few flowers and rearrange some of our strawberry plants.  Shane has got our flower patches all cleaned out, and our garden pretty close to ready.  It’s been a lot of work!  Landon has helped Shane out a little, so here are a few pictures of him at work with dad.

We have also enjoyed some delicious French bread and hot chocolate.  The boys have caught on to this unique breakfast tradition quite well!  Davis looks a bit concerned in this picture – not sure why.

That’s all for now.  I’m officially caught up!  (well, on my blog.  Now if I can just get caught up with everything else in my life.  :)

Easter Weekend

Besides being at Grandpa's funeral, we had a wonderful Easter weekend, spending time with Grandma Landon (who I hadn't seen for two years) and with aunts, uncles, and cousins I hadn't seen in that long or longer. We even made time for an Easter egg hunt, coloring eggs, and a trip to the falls to feed the ducks and see the temple (despite the BITTER cold weather! It was painful!). It was nice to be there with family during this time. Due to the huge amount of photos, I put them all in a slideshow. Enjoy!

Grandpa Landon

                     23Grandpa0004 grandma_grandpa-smiling

I haven’t posted in awhile on this blog, but before I update too much on what we’ve been up to, I wanted to do a little tribute to my Grandpa Landon.  He passed away March 28th, and we were able to go out to his funeral Easter weekend.  It was especially poignant to be there for the Easter holiday and have the meaning of Easter sink in in a different way than it has before.  Although I will miss him very much, I know that it was time for my grandpa to go, and I’m so grateful all of our family could be there together to remember him and his amazing life.

The funeral was an amazing and sacred experience.  There were so many people there who loved my grandpa, and I think I came away from it realizing how lucky I am to be his granddaughter and to have had the chance to know him for so much of my life.  He was a great example of faith, service, and hard work.

I always loved going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house.  Grandpa loved to tell stories and to joke and laugh with us.  He was always working hard too, even after he retired from farming.  Most mornings when we’d go visit him in the summer, I’d come upstairs for breakfast, and Grandpa would be already outside picking raspberries, which I then ate bowl after bowl of.  When my grandparents would come and visit us, I can remember waking up in the morning and hearing him snoring as he slept out in the living room, and being so excited that he was there.

As I grew older and attended BYU, Grandma and Grandpa Landon’s house became a home away from home for us, and Becky and I, and later Jacob, made many trips up there for Thanksgiving, to go to the cabin, and just to feel like we were going somewhere close to home.  Grandpa would always take us out to the deep freezer and load us up with all kinds of meat, and Grandma would send us back with homemade bread and freezer jam (made from all those delicious raspberries!).  Grandpa would always slip some money in our pockets as we left.  They often came to visit us in Provo too, taking us to dinner and bringing us similar goodies and treats.

I remember when Shane and I bought our house in Ogden, my grandparents came to visit for the day while Shane and I worked on painting (with my mom and Becky’s help!).  They brought goodies to eat, and while we were painting, I found Grandpa kneeling on the hard wood floor (we had pulled all the carpets up) and pulling out nails from the floor.  That is how he was.  Always at work.  Always serving.

My favorite thing about my Grandpa and Grandma Landon is their love for the temple, and how they instilled that love in us.  They always let us know how much they loved to go there and to serve as temple workers.  That is why we named our first son Landon – to remember them and the legacy they have left for us.
