Davis Turns 9

We had a few fun days celebrating Davis’s 9th birthday this year.  We had aunts, uncles, and cousins over the Sunday before his birthday for dinner and cake and ice cream.  Then on Wednesday, the day of his actual birthday, we had a lot going on with basketball practice and cub scouts, but we tried to make it a special day.  We had our traditional crepes for breakfast, and then I took Davis to lunch at McDonalds during his school lunch time.  Shane came home from work early with pizza (Davis’s favorite) so we could eat together and open Davis’s gifts before he went to basketball and then cub scouts. Thursday, when we had a little more time, we had over a couple family friends for cake and ice cream.

We sure love our Davis and can’t imagine life without him.  He is kind, caring, funny, and has the best laugh.  He loves to be silly and to tease, but he also knows how to be quiet and listen when he needs to.  He loves to play outside with his friends, and he always has to have a big afternoon snack to feed his growing body.  He works hard in school and puts in his best effort.  He reads his scriptures each night before bed, and he is growing and learning so much more every day.  Here are a few questions we asked him:

Legoland–California Trip Day 4

For our last day in Southern California, we spent on day at Legoland.  Before we left though, we had to say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa Malan, who flew back that afternoon.  We were so glad we had them with us for the fun memories at Disneyland!  The boys also had fun playing with their new light sabers they made at Disneyland.  I hope we don’t regret having four of those around our house! 

 

Even though it was a bit cooler, it was another beautiful day in Southern California.  Legoland seemed empty compared to Disneyland, which was an nice break from the crowds and lines from the past three days.  They had a deal where you could build three of your own mini-figures for $9.99, and a bonus coupon that you could get another three free, so the boys started out by making their own minifigure to take around with them. 

 

Safari ride through the Lego animals and helicopter ride:

         

Driving School:  The boys liked this one.  They sat in a Lego car and drove around a little Lego town.

         

For this ride, the kids had to pump up and down to move the rescue car across the track, and then they had to spray the window with water to catch the thief.  They did pretty good making it across!

   

We did a Lego Adventure to find the lost keys as we walked through, visited the Lego making factory, rode the pirate boat, and then had fun looking at the Star Wars Lego characters and all of the Lego mini-world creations.  That was my favorite part!

                       

This ride had the longest line that we waited in, and right as the boys go on, they opened up the other side and the line disappeared, but it was worth the wait and the boys had fun driving over the water and trying to avoid the squirts of water.

       

A Lego spinning ride that I made Shane go on so I wouldn’t get sick, the horse ride that broke down right as James got on, and a large Lego dragon:

   

Asher loved this little airplane ride,  He exclaimed as we went around one corner, “Woot!  Woot!”  with his hands up in the air. 

 

We also rode a boat ride that took us by many of the Lego monuments.  The kids liked the corny jokes the boat driver told as we rode around. 

     

We saw some cool Lego characters, and then enjoyed the last couple of rides before the park closed.  Their favorite ride of the day was the Ninjago ride, which we don’t have any pictures of!  We finished the day off by riding the boats through the storybook village, riding the carousel for Asher, and doing the pull up rope before finishing with the Lego Ninjago ride one more time. 

               

Grandma and Grandpa left a little treat in the freezer for us that we found when we got back to our hotel.  Madeleine thought it was pretty tasty!
