Ever since Shane started biking, he has wanted to do the Reach the Beach ride they have each May. Every year, we’ve had a conflict, but finally this year it worked out for him to train and do the ride that day. It is a 100 mile ride from Beaverton to Pacific City, Oregon. It coincided this year with the AHA Heart walk in downtown Portland, so I took the boys down to the heart walk while he biked to the beach. They had someone making balloon hats, so the boys each got one while we waited to start the walk. There were a ton of people there, but we made it through the 3-mile walk, and the boys were all good sports.
We left straight from the heart walk to go to pick him up, and Kelly came along with us to the beach. The forecast all week had been for rain, so we were excited when we got there and saw clear blue skies, sun, and little to no wind! We hadn’t ever been to Pacific City before, so it was fun to explore a new beach. We’ll definitely be coming here more often since it is the closest beach to us now that we’ve moved.
Asher started eating sand, but he didn’t seem to mind too much.
Shane did awesome on his ride, and we were so proud of him sticking with it through the training and the long rides.
