On Monday morning, we drove up to Island Park to stay in Granny’s cabin. I grew up going to this cabin when we would visit my Grandma and Grandpa Landon. It originally belonged to “Granny,” my Grandma Landon’s mother, and the downstairs bedroom is still affectionately known as Granny’s room and contains photos and memorabilia from Granny’s life. Shane’s family all went up with us to spend some time in Island Park and in Yellowstone. I hadn’t been there since Landon was five months old, and so none of the boys remembered ever being there.
Granny’s room:
We looked through the guest books while we were there, and found an entry from my mom was she was really young, just a couple of years after Granny had bought the cabin.
The kids had a lot of fun, and they were excited to see the log walls, the loft with all its beds, and the quiet nature all around us. Christie made a fun nature treasure hunt for the kids, and they had fun looking for little “treasures” out in nature.
On the drive up, Shane made a CD for everyone to listen to with each person’s favorite song. We had to guess who had chosen each song. We all had a lot of fun hearing the songs and going over the answers, and the kids even jumped up and started dancing on their favorites.
That evening, we walked down to the docks by the river. This was something we always did when I was little too.
Other highlights at the cabin included eating delicious meals of grilled hamburgers one night, and dutch oven other night. The dutch oven night, we all of a sudden heard some thunder, and then a roaring sound approaching us through the trees. We quickly realized it was rain coming down hard just a short distance from the cabin. We had enough time to move the dutch ovens to a dry spot and all run inside before the downpour hit.
Sack lunches for all those people took up a lot of table space! Laci is quite the hair braider, and she usually used this little mirror in the kitchen since the cabin only has one bathroom.
Everyone had fun just playing outside. Keither taught Mark how to throw face cards like a frisbee, and the kids had fun with the bubbles and squirt guns Grandma Malan brought up.
I hope my boys will have fond memories of going to Granny’s cabin, just like I do!

I'm jealous! It's been a long time. Lots of good memories.
Oh the memories!!! miss that place :)
We loved this cabin! One bathroom is plenty to have around when one is out in the wild! Absolutely beautiful and so cozy! Thanks to the Landon family for their helping us have such a great time in Yellowstone!
