Eliza is my little buddy in the car, and she chats my ear off as we drive along and enjoy the countryside. Once we arrived in Delft, Becky and Camille checked out the map and where we wanted to go, and Cam made sure to get us a tourist info map. We walked around the square, and it was the most beautiful little town with picturesque brick buildings, quaint little bridges over the canal, and hundreds of bikes and bikers. I felt like it was a posed picture scene around every corner! After the busy Paris, it was nice to relax and enjoy the quiet bikers and the relatively peaceful town, especially on a Monday. We visited some of the little souvenir shops along the square, and then walked around the canal. Becky fed Lincoln on a bench by the canal while Jess, Cam and Eliza walked around to find the windmill. The windmill was under construction but still pretty.
We then walked around a bit to see if there was anything to eat and returned to a cafe we had seen right when we arrived that had fish and chips. The fish and chips were delicious, and it was especially fun to eat there as the guy who took are order was also the cook and everything!
Our feet needed a break after all the Paris walking, and flip flops seemed perfect for an easy walking day through Delft. And I just couldn’t get enough of all the bikes everywhere!
A man was making wooden shoes right on the main square, and Eliza wanted a picture in the big show that reminded me of the ones at the Tulip Festival in Woodburn.
From there we headed to our Airbnb in Antwerp. The Airbnb was nice. It said on the description that they had two little bunnies in a cage, so we weren’t sure how that would be, but they were cute and we hardly noticed them. The next morning though, Eliza woke up early in the morning and accidentally went in the room with the bunnies. She started crying and when I went to check on her, she said, "Take me away from the bunnies!". She was paralyzed in the corner of the room, too afraid to move.
After packing up our stuff and getting ready for the day, we left for Bruges, stopping at a Colryut grocery store to get some food for breakfast. We got chocolate and vanilla muffins, yogurt and bananas. When we arrived in Bruges, we headed straight for a boat tour. We took a nice little boat tour on the canal and it was a great way to see the city. It was nice enjoying the scenery in a much more relaxing way then walking all over! Our feet were glad for the break.
After our boat tour we walked around a bit and found a bench for Becky to sit on to feed Lincoln. We ended up getting some lunch in a Carrefour express grocery store: some baguette sandwiches. We were going to get fries too but decided we needed to save room for the most delicious waffles ever. After lunch we went and got waffles- I got strawberries and whipped cream, Becky got strawberries and chocolate and Camille got Carmel. They were so yummy! After waffles we walked to the lake in Bruges. It was quiet and peaceful and picturesque. On our way out we stopped at a couple stops because Becky needed to feed Lincoln again. I ran back to a Zara store we had passed and found a few cute clothes for Madeleine before we got back in the car to drive back to Luxembourg. I was so glad we went to Delft and Bruges. I loved both of them!
When we got home, We had yummy raclette for dinner. It was delicious and a fun way to eat.
Wednesday morning, Camille and I went to Auchan to get some groceries for lunch and some chocolate for home. We then met Nate at work with some baguette sandwiches, blueberries, red peppers, chips and a very delicious raspberry tart! The weather was warm and we sat on the grass with a great view of the city while the boys played some soccer.
Goodbyes are the worst. I have been to some pretty amazing places and seen some pretty amazing things on this trip, but the real highlight was doing it all with my sisters. We had some great laughs along the way, like the time we ran down the up escalator in the metro , but best of all we were able to be together. I’m so grateful to my mom, who dreamed up this whole idea and watched our kids while we were gone to make it all possible. I’m going to always remember this fun time we had together.
