Utah Trip–A Day in Salt Lake

On Friday, we decided it would be fun to ride the Frontrunner to Salt Lake City for the day.  We had quite the crew!  The boys were excited to ride on the train, and Asher for some reason liked pointing out all the porta potties along the way (they were doing some work on the tracks so there were quite a few of them).

We spent some time exploring the visitors’ center on Temple Square.  The boys had never been there, and they liked all the different interactive displays.  They also loved the room with the Christus statue – who wouldn’t?  (James for some reason didn’t want to take a picture, so this is the best we got).

After lunch, we went to the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building to get a good view of the temple, then walked along the temple grounds.  We ended with a tour of the Conference Center, but by that point my pregnant body was pretty tired, so I waiting in the lobby with Davis (who was tired too), while everyone else went on the tour.  The boys really enjoyed everything that we did.  We’ll have to go again with them sometime!

Lagoon Day

On Tuesday, we went to Lagoon for the day.  Unfortunately, the forecast for pretty much every day we were there was for high 90’s to 100 degrees, so Tuesday was no exception.  We decided that we would go a little bit later in the day so hopefully it would start cooling off in the evening and we could stay later.  We got there just after 3:00, and it was HOT, but the lines for the kid rides were all in the shade, and they didn’t seem to mind much.  It was a fun day with cousins!

The whole crew together outside Rattlesnake Rapids.  (James apparently wasn’t very happy because he wanted to go get an Icee drink, not take a group pictures)

The log ride:

The sky ride was a favorite.  Even 30-week-pregnant moms could go on it!

Lots of fun on all the kiddie rides:

The bumper cars were another favorite:

The heat of course required lots of breaks and some cold drinks.  Grandma treated the kids to these huge Icee drinks.  They thought the cups were pretty cool!

Asher was super excited to ride on the train.  It was his favorite ride for sure.  We stayed at Lagoon until they closed down the kiddie rides that night.  We were all exhausted by then, but it was a great day!

Utah Trip Part I–Saturday to Monday

We headed out to Utah this year the week of the 4th of the July.  Oregon was having record-breaking temperatures in the 100’s, so the 100 degree weather in Utah wasn’t much different that here.  On our way, we stopped in Boise for the night to stay with the Bairds.  It is always so fun to see them and catch up a bit on our way out to Utah!  I should’ve thought to get a picture before the boys were all loaded, but at least I got one.

From Boise, we got up Saturday morning and drove to Idaho Falls to visit for a few hours with Grandma Landon.  Susan had some hot dogs ready for us for lunch, and we even had visits from my Uncle Barry and Aunt Sue, Uncle John, and my cousins Brock and Jill and each of their families.  Our boys always have fun playing with Jill’s boy Landon, who is only six months younger than our Landon.  I always love visiting with my Grandma Landon.  She is the sweetest!  (Shane even got himself in the picture this time)

No trip to Idaho Falls is complete without a stop at Reed’s Dairy for a brown cow.  We stopped on our way out of town and Shane was in heaven of course.  He even went back for a refill on the chocolate milk.

From there, we headed on to North Ogden, where we met everyone at Mark and Melanie’s for dinner in their backyard.  Melanie always makes a great meal, and the kids all love playing in their big backyard.  Sunday, we relaxed in the morning, then after church, we went back to Mark and Melanie’s for another great meal.

Monday, Christie arranged for us to go swimming in some of her neighbor’s pools, so in the morning, we spent a couple of hours swimming in one pool, and then another time swimming that evening.  The boys had a lot of fun, and the pool felt so nice on a hot day!  The kids had fun hanging out and playing at Grandma’s house with their cousins when not swimming.

Christie had some huge pine cones and the materials to make bird feeders.  The kids had fun making their feeders and watching all the birds that come and visit their beautiful yard take a bite of their feeders.

James helped to entertain Elyse while Laci did her hair.
